Payments integration

Stripe and Paystack Integration for SaaS Billing

I integrate Stripe and Paystack into SaaS products: subscriptions, webhooks, plan gating and customer billing screens. I have migrated a live product's billing from Stripe to Paystack, so I know how to move paying customers between providers without breaking access to the features they pay for.

Who it's for

Who this is for

SaaS teams adding billing for the first time, and products selling into African markets where Paystack is often the better fit for local cards, bank transfers and currencies. Billing touches signup, access control and support, so it needs to be built carefully.

If you are planning to switch providers, I can plan and run the migration so customers keep access throughout.

Deliverables

What you get

Subscriptions and plans

Plans, trials and recurring billing set up in Stripe or Paystack and mirrored in your database.

Webhooks done right

Signature-verified webhook handlers that update subscription status reliably, safe to receive the same event twice.

Plan gating

Feature access tied to the customer's current plan, enforced on the server and in the database, not only in the UI.

Checkout and billing UI

Checkout flows, upgrade and downgrade, invoices and a billing page customers can manage themselves.

Billing migrations

A tested plan to move customers between providers, like the Stripe-to-Paystack migration I delivered for LeadsMind.

Multi-currency setup

Prices and currencies configured for where your customers are, with the provider that supports them.

How I work

My process, step by step

STEP 1

Discovery call

A short call about what you are building, who it is for and what already exists. Afterwards I send a written scope and estimate.

STEP 2

Plan and architecture

We agree the data model, Row Level Security rules and milestone list in writing before I start on features.

STEP 3

Build in milestones

Each milestone ends with working software you can test and a written progress report on what shipped and what is next.

STEP 4

Launch and handover

I deploy to production, hand over the code, accounts and documentation, and stay available for fixes and the next features.

Engagement

How we work together

  • Billing work is scoped around your plans, countries and currencies. A migration is planned customer by customer before anything is switched.
  • You get a fixed scope and estimate after a short discovery call.
  • Every milestone is tested in the provider's test mode, covering renewals, failed payments and cancellations, before it goes live.

I work remotely from Bahawalpur, Pakistan, with clients in Africa, the US and the MENA region. Every project runs on written progress reports, so decisions do not wait for a shared working hour.

Proof

Proof from shipped work

On Upwork I am Top Rated with a 100% Job Success Score, which comes from saying what I will deliver and then delivering it, milestone by milestone.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Should I use Stripe or Paystack for my SaaS?

If your business and most customers are in Africa, especially Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya or South Africa, Paystack usually supports the local payment methods and currencies your customers expect. Stripe offers broader global coverage and more advanced billing features. My Stripe vs Paystack guide compares them in detail.

Can you migrate my subscriptions from Stripe to Paystack?

Yes, I have done it on a live product. A migration needs a plan for each customer's next payment, because saved card details cannot simply be copied between providers. I map plans, update your database and webhooks, and move customers in a controlled order.

Do you handle webhooks and failed payments?

Yes. Webhooks are verified, idempotent and update subscription status in your database. Failed payments move customers through a grace period and clear messaging rather than an instant lockout, based on the rules you choose.

Which payment providers do you integrate?

Stripe and Paystack, the two providers I use in production. If you need another provider, tell me in the discovery call and I will be clear about whether I have used it before.

How do I know billing will not break for existing customers?

Every change is tested in the provider's test mode first: new subscriptions, upgrades, downgrades, renewals, failed payments, cancellations and the same webhook arriving twice. During a migration, customers keep their current plan until the new subscription is active, and both webhook handlers run until the old provider's last subscription ends.

Can we use Stripe and Paystack in the same product?

Yes. Some products need both: Stripe for international customers and Paystack for customers paying locally in Africa. I keep one subscription model in your database, map each provider's events onto it, and gate features from that single record, so the rest of your app does not care which provider a customer paid through.
